All of the Irish boats still involved in the Rowing World Championships moved a step closer to the finals in Banyoles, Spain today.

While lightweight single scullers Sinéad Jennings and Timmy Harnedy had to rely on the repachage after coming unstuck in their respective heats earlier in the week, they came through without any problems this afternoon.

Jennings won her repachage heat in the fastest time of the day (7min41.33sec) to qualify for the semi-finals while Harnedy, a reserve for the Irish team in Athens, was second in his race.

Elsewhere, the lightweight men's pair of Neil Casey, who will travel to Athens as the other Irish reserve, and Derek Holland made life easier for themselves yesterday by qualifying directly for their semi-final on Friday.

Irish coach Tony O'Connor was in upbeat mood following today's racing, commenting: "Sinéad was particularly impressive winning her rep in the fastest time of the day in her classification and we couldn't ask for better at the moment; as it stands all our boats are still on course to reach Sunday's finals as hoped at the outset."
