Actors Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson have been nominated for Golden Globe Awards while the film Alberts Nobbs, which was filmed in Dublin, has received three nominations.
Fassbender is nominated in the Best Actor category for his role in the Steve McQueen directed film Shame. He faces tough competition however, with George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt the other nominees.
Gleeson is shortlisted for his role in The Guard in the Best Comedy or Musical category.
Albert Nobbs, which yesterday received two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, has been shortlisted for three Golden Globes, including best original song for Lay Your Head Down, which was written by actor Glenn Close and Irish composer Brian Byrne and is sung by Sinead O'Connor.
Close is nominated in the Best Actress category for her role in the film while Janet McAteer is shortlisted for the best supporting actress prize.
Albert Nobbs was directed by Rodrigo Garcia, the son of the novelist Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and co-written by Man Booker Prize winner and former Irish Times literary editor John Banville. The screenplay is based on a short story by Irish novelist George Moore.
In the film, Glenn Close plays a woman passing herself off as a man in order to work and survive in 19th century Ireland.
Game of Thrones, which was filmed in and around Belfast and carried out all of its post production in Screen Scene in the Republic, is nominated in the Best TV Series category.
Silent movie The Artist leads the nominations with six nods including best film comedy or musical.
The Descendants, which stars George Clooney and the civil rights drama The Help have both received five nominations including Best Film Drama.
Clooney is nominated for three awards overall while his Ides Of March co-star Ryan Gosling is up for two.
The Golden Globe Awards are given out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and are among the most-watched honours during Hollywood's awards season, leading up to the Oscars in February.
The awards will be given out in a gala ceremony on January 15th, hosted by comedian Ricky Gervais.
