There is no Irish link to recent terrorist attacks in Britain and the threat assessment level here remains low, the Government said today.
The national Task Force on Emergency Planning today reviewed the security risk to the country during an 90-minute meeting in Dublin.
Task Force chairman, Minister for Defence Willie said afterwards: "There are detailed contacts continuing between the Garda and senior police officers in the UK in relation to recent events.
"The British are confident they have identified everybody connected with the cell that was responsible for the current attacks.
"The police are sure that there are no links with any possible suspects in Ireland but of course we will continue to mount surveillance on some individuals within the state.
"As a result, the threat assessment level remains low but we can never become complacent."
Mr O'Dea received a detailed security briefing by senior Garda and Defence Forces officers before the meeting.
The Minister brought forward the monthly meeting of the Task Force by one week in light of last week's failed terrorist attacks in London and Glasgow.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Government Departments, the Garda, Defence Forces and several state agencies. The current situation in relation to the bird flu risk to Ireland was also discussed at the meeting.
