DAN O'BRIEN has been appointed Economics Editor of The Irish Times. He was previously Europe editor of the EconomistIntelligence Unit for 12 years, based in London and Geneva. In that capacity, he regularly contributed comment and analysis to The Irish Times, the International Herald Tribune, the Financial Times, RTÉ, CNNand the BBC, among others.
He has worked in the foreign service of the European Commission and as a consultant for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, and Forfás. He is author of Ireland, Europe and the World: Writings on a New Century,published in October 2009.
He was educated at Coláiste Eoin, Stillorgan, and University College Dublin, where he obtained a B.Comm and M.Econ.Sc.
