Irish UN troops serving in Lebanon were late last night in bomb shelters after an outbreak of shelling close to their battalion headquarters, Jim Cusack reports. Six mortars were fired from close to the Irish Battalion headquarters outside the village of Tibnin. There were no reports of casualties.
It is believed the mortars were fired by Hizbullah guerrillas at Israeli-occupied compounds inside the so-called Israeli "security zone" inside Lebanon.
The Irish troops moved into the shelters as it was expected that there would be returning shell fire from the Israelis.
