Mr Gerard Keaveney (24), of Hillside Drive, Mullingar, Co Westmeath, was being treated for a leg injury in Belford Hospital, Fort William, Scotland, last night after a 200 foot fall while abseiling on Ben Nevis. A British climber accompanying him, Mr Timothy Snaith (34), of York, died. The two men were climbing together, when the accident happened on Observation Gully near the 4,406 foot summit of Britain's highest mountain.
