An Irishman who had four toes amputated following an industrial accident on a Queensland, Australia, farm has been awarded Au$566,752 (€454,491) in compensation. Enda Judge (26) was working on a compactor on a cotton farm in the town of Mungindi, when his right foot was crushed by the machine’s wheels on May 1st, 2009.

He was flown to hospital in the city of Toowoomba, where his wounds were treated.

He was back in Mungindi a week later when his toes started to turn black. Doctors at the local hospital advised him to immediately go to a hospital in the state capital, Brisbane.

Mr Judge made the eight-hour journey by car with his brother. He sued the farm’s owners and operator, RH Grey and Son Pty Ltd, Danbil Pty Ltd and Daniel Burke for damages for his injuries.
