The Pet Shop Boys (left) could be the Gilbert & George of 1980s pop, always dressing the same, always being photographed together, and always ready with an arty quote or ten. The partnership of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, however, is strictly professional, spanning more than a decade of hits, including Suburbia, It's A Sin, Always On My Mind, Left To My Own Devices and What Have I Done To Deserve This? The Pet Shop Boys came together when Tennant, an assistant editor of teen pop mag, Smash Hits, met keyboard player Lowe in a hi-fi shop on London's King's Road. Their first hit, West End Girls, went to Number One in eight countries, but their recent album, Nightlife, and the lengthily-titled single, I Don't Know What You Want But I Can't Give It Any- more, have not fared so spectacularly well. Tomorrow's show at Dublin's Point is pitched at fans of the band's hit-making past, with the band putting on a suitably flamboyant show.
