Eddie Irvine admits his Formula One future is still in the balance after raising doubts about his new Jaguar.
Irvine will compete in the R3B for the first time in Sunday's British Grand Prix at Silverstone - a race seen as a key to whether he will carry on next year.
The 36-year-old has said that if he does not have a competitive car for 2003 then he will consider bringing his career to an end.
But Irvine said after testing the heavily revised car for the first time in Barcelona last week that there were still question marks about it.
"I did 15 laps in the car and I was not happy with it," admitted the Ulsterman.
"There were some improvements in certain areas but some other problems surfaced. There were issues to be worked on which the team did on Friday after I left.
"This is definitely a step forward even if it is not as good as we would have hoped. It's definitely going in the right direction but we will have to wait until Silverstone to see where we are.
"If I drive this car and it turns me on then I'll want to carry on, but if it does not turn me on then I'll have to consider my options."
