Israel reduced fuel supplies to the Gaza Strip today after threatening to impose further sanctions on the impoverished Hamas-ruled territory, Palestinian officials said.
Mojahed Salama, head of the Palestinian Authority's Petrol Agency, said that fuel imports showed a 40-50 per cent reduction today in diesel and benzine supplies and a 12 per cent reduction in fuel for Gaza's power plant.
Israeli officials were not immediately available for comment. Foreign officials involved in overseeing the fuel transfers to Gaza said they knew of no cutbacks by Israel.
