Baalbek - Israeli warplanes yesterday raided suspected Hizbollah targets in north-east Lebanon near Syria, the furthest north Israel has struck this year. Witnesses said the planes attacked near the edge of the town of Hermel, on the banks of the Orontes river which flows in the Bekaa Valley from Lebanon to Syria. There was no immediate indication whether the attack caused casualties or damage.
An Israeli military spokeswoman in Jerusalem said all planes returned safely after attacking "terrorist targets" in the Hermel area but gave no further details.
