A Palestinian has been shot dead near the scene of the ambush in which seven Israelis died yesterday.
An Israeli officer was killed today and three other soldiers wounded, one seriously, in a firefight with Palestinian gunmen suspected of staging a bus ambush in the West Bank, the army said.
A military spokesman identified the dead officer as Lieutenant Elad Grindir, 21.

A military source reported earlier that one of the group of Palestinians suspected of involvement in yesterday's bus ambush, which left eight Israelis dead, was killed in the firefight that occurred around dawn.
