Israeli police officers killeda Palestinian driver today when he failed to stop for aninspection in the third fatal police shooting of Arab motorists in less than a month.
Israeli police patrolling a road linking Jerusalem to the West Bankshot the driver when he rammed into a police van and a truckafter failing to heed a request to pull over on suspicion he wasdriving a stolen vehicle, police spokesman, Gil Kleiman, said.
"He jumped out of the car, police fired warning shots andthen they shot and wounded him," he said. The man later died ofhis injuries in hospital, relatives said.
Police found that the car was not stolen but they were stillinvestigating why the Palestinian man was driving a vehicle withIsraeli licence plates, Kleiman said.
A Justice Ministry task force is investigating all threefatal shooting incidents in which two Israeli-Arab men and aPalestinian were killed, Kleiman said.
