Palestinians fired today at a Jewish settlement near Jerusalem, with the Israeli army responding by firing shells into the West Bank, security sources said.
The gunfight at Gilo, a Jewish settlement which Israel considers inside Jerusalem's municipal boundaries, was the first there in a month.
The Israeli army responded to the Palestinian shooting by firing shells from tanks toward the alleged sources of the attack in the West Bank town of Beit Jala and the Aida refugee camp, Palestinian sources said.
No injuries were immediately reported.
Separately, Palestinian sources said that three Palestinians were lightly injured in a gunfight at Rafah between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.
The incident occurred one day after the Israeli army killed six Palestinians in clashes, in one of the bloodiest days in months.
About 20 other people were wounded today in clashes in the Gaza Strip.
