Italian police said today they had arrested a Moroccan man after finding computer files allegedly linking him to a series of attacks on US-led forces in Iraq.
Police said in statement they had found claims of responsibility for attacks carried out in the last few weeks in Iraq on the hard drive of a computer belonging to the Moroccan national in the northern town of Cremona.
They said they had also found audio and video files that linked him to militant groups in Iraq. He was arrested on Friday.
The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation that led to the detention of three Muslims from Tunisia and Morocco in Cremona this week. Investigators believe they planned to blow up the subway stop below Milan's cathedral in December 2002 and also to bomb the cathedral in Cremona.
The operation has been hailed by Interior Minister Giuseppe Pisanu as evidence of "the presence and danger of Islamic terrorism in our country".
