Sarajevo - A former Bosnian Muslim leader, Mr Alija Izetbegovic, said yesterday he had stepped down as head of Bosnia's biggest nationalist Muslim party, the Party of Democratic Action, that he founded in 1990.
Following the terrorist attacks on the US and the air strikes against Afghanistan, Mr Izetbegovic had faced criticism for having received the aid of mujahedeens, or fighters from Islamic countries, during the 1992-95 Bosnia war.
Mr Izetbegovic (76) who headed the Bosnian government during the war, had already resigned to the day a year ago as a Muslim member of Bosnia's tripartite presidency.
