Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin established a new course record (62) in the opening round of the inaugural Nordic Open today.
It was also the first time his girlfriend Fanny Shabre had caddied for him. "My usual caddie had to stay in Paris and Fanny wanted to try it," explained Jacquelin, who carded eight birdies and an eagle with an inward nine of 30.
"It's not easy the first time but she was pretty good. She is with me every week so she knows a bit about golf, she had the yardage book and sometimes she helps with the line on the greens."
Jacquelin holds an early three shot lead from Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez who shot a 65.
Colin Montgomerie could have done with some assistance in that area, the Scot bemoaning his form on the greens after completing a two-under-par 70 to lie eight shots off the lead.
"I was glad my hand did not suffer but I missed a number of putts and on a low-scoring course like this, if you don't hole out you don't score," he said.
"I've not putted well at all and I don't know why."
Of the early Irish starters, Ronan Rafferty came home in one under while his younger counterpart, Graeme McDowell was one over playing the last.
