An FCA man who attempted to bugger a female colleague as she lay comatose from alcohol she drank at a free bar during an FCA function has been jailed for three years.

The Co Cork man had taken on the responsibility of bringing the woman back to his house to sleep off the effects of the drink, the Central Criminal Court heard.

Imposing sentence, Mr Justice Carney said the defendant had put himself in a position of trust and abused it. Defence counsel, Mr Brendan Grogan SC, said his client was willing to move from the area where he and the victim lived. The FCA had said that, depending on the decision of the court, the defendant would be allowed to join another battalion away from his home area.
