A Japanese internet services company is to create more than 100 new jobs in Cork when it consolidates many of its European operations at one site.

Trend Micro sells network anti-virus and Internet content security software. Its Cork office will handle order management and shipping operations, currently based throughout Europe.

Mr Anthony O'Mara, MD for Trend Micro Ireland said: "Our business has reached a size and importance to our customers that requires careful consideration of how we organise processes to achieve maximum benefit for all.

"The opening of the [Cork] Centre underlines Trend Micro's emphasis on continued growth of its global business and commitment to its customers."

The IDA has welcomed the company's announcement and will be providing support for the new facility which is expected to be opened by July 2003. Recruiting will begin in April.

Trend Micro has 23 offices worldwide and employs over 1,800 staff.
