The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform last night announced a £15,000 Government contribution to the Jerry McCabe Fellowship, an academic exchange programme in honour of the Garda detective shot dead while stopping a robbery in Co Limerick in 1996.
Mr O'Donoghue made the announcement at a benefit function in New York, attended by the former United States ambassador to Ireland, Ms Jean Kennedy Smith, and senior members of the New York Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Administered by the Garda Siochana and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, the fellowship is aimed at improving links between law enforcement officials.
