The man accused of murdering TV presenter Jill Dando appeared at the Old Bailey in London today for a short preliminary hearing which was held without press and public being allowed into court.

After 40 minutes the case was adjourned until noon tomorrow.

Mr Barry George (41) from Fulham, west London, has denied murdering 37-year-old Ms Dando, who was shot dead on the doorstep of her home in Fulham on April 26th, 1999.

Prosecuting in the case is senior Treasury counsel Orlando Pownall. Michael Mansfield QC is defending Mr George.

Mr Justice Gage is the presiding judge. The trial is expected to last up to six weeks.
