London - BBC staff were braced for fresh job losses today after director general Mr Greg Dyke pledged more cuts during his second year in charge. A BBC spokesman confirmed 750 jobs are still to go to reach the 1,000 target set by Mr Dyke last April. But he could not confirm further losses would be announced when Mr Dyke makes a speech to staff today.
The BBC chief also confirmed the corporation was considering taking a stake in a pay-for-view sports channel. This would infuriate commercial rivals, but would help the BBC win back rights to big sporting events.
