Gardaí and the PSNI are investigating the recent theft of cars and break-ins. Yesterday an appeal was issued over the theft of four vehicles after incidents in Athboy, Co Meath, Letterkenny and Castlefin, Co Donegal, and Strabane and Clady in Co Tyrone on Monday and Tuesday.

Last night two Donegal firms were offering a reward of €5,000 for the capture of the individuals concerned. Garda in Letterkenny (Tel: 074 91 22222) believe a gang of four people is involved.

On Monday, a Mercedes was stolen in Athboy. Later a BMW was stolen in Letterkenny, and there were attempted break-ins in the area. Yesterday morning the Mercedes crashed near Strabane, while the BMW was apprehended in Castlefin after it had rammed a Garda car. The four occupants fled.

Yesterday morning a Ford Escort van and Rover car were stolen north of the Border.
