Local government in Britain and Ireland will play a central role in achieving a harmonious relationship between the two islands, the Lord Mayors of Dublin, Belfast and Cardiff and the Lord Provost of Edinburgh have said.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Ms Mary Freehill, the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Mr Robert Stoker, the Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Mr Russell Goodway, and the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Mr Eric Milligan, yesterday called for the "full and speedy" implementation of the Belfast Agreement.
