A Chilean judge will go ahead with the interrogation of former dictator
General Augusto Pinochet for human rights abuses early next week following medical examinations, prosecutors in Chile said today.
Judge Juan Guzman Tapia, investigating more than 200 complaints against Mr Pinochet, rejected two petitions from the former dictator seeking to put off Tuesday’s interrogation until results of medical examinations scheduled for Sunday and Monday were known, prosecution lawyer Mr Hugo Gutierrez said.
Mr Pinochet lawyers argued that the interrogation should take place only after the results of the psychological and neurological examinations were released.
Mr Pinochet defied Mr Guzman on yesterday, saying through his lawyers that he had no intention of undergoing the tests or appearing for the interrogation as scheduled.
