A judge said in the Central Criminal Court he does not have the power to stop the media publishing photographs of a self-confessed rapist.
Last month, Paul Cullinane (31), of Barry Avenue, Galway pleaded guilty before Mr Justice Carney to raping a 16-year-old girl in Galway on the night of August 24th, 1993. He was remanded in custody.
Defence counsel, Ms Isobel Kennedy, said Cullinane was anxious that no pictures of him should appear in the press until after he was sentenced.
Photographers took his picture as he was on his way into the Fours Courts, she said.
Mr Justice Morris said he did not consider he had any jurisdiction in the matter and made no order
He listed the case for March 13th next when a new sentence hearing will be fixed for a date when Mr Justice Carney will be available to deal with it.
