A High Court judge has warned a solicitor over matters related to his client being jailed for not acting on orders requiring him to remove an unauthorised road.

Mr Justice John Quirke said solicitor John Murchan may himself be in contempt over his role in the sale of housing sites accessed by the 300m road at Feighcullen, Rathangan, Co Kildare.

The road was built several years ago by local man Leo Price, a client of Mr Murchan, without planning permission.

After failing to obey High Court orders requiring him to remove the road, Mr Price was jailed nearly a fortnight ago for six weeks for contempt of court.

An application to release Mr Price on grounds that work to remove the road had finally been carried out, was adjourned by the judge yesterday to tomorrow. Counsel for Mr Murchan said the court had no jurisdiction to deal with contempt against his client.
