The UN Permanent Court of Arbitration was accepted by Ireland and the UK as the court in which the Irish challenge would be heard. The judges issued the following rulings:

Unanimously rejected the UK's view that they did not have jurisdiction over the dispute;

Unanimously rejected the British argument that the Irish case was inadmissible;

By a majority, they refused to grant Ireland's demand for sight of commercially-sensitive MOX papers;
