Tight security will be the key to a good night for Junior Certificate students celebrating in Dublin at alcohol-free venues tonight.

Organisers of one function have hired seven gardaí to give back up to security staff to ensure students are safely entertained.

"Scream", Ireland's biggest Junior Cert party, will be held in the Point in Dublin, and between 6,000 and 8,000 students are expected to attend.

Tickets cost €38. Eddie Walsh of organisers Grooveyard said security will be tight.

"We will have over 90 security personnel including gardaí . . . We will also have an ambulance, 10 first-aid workers and doctors on call," he said. "Alcohol is banned, all bottles are banned and bags will be searched."

Donie Bolger, functions manager and teenage disco organiser at Old Wesley Club in Donnybrook, is also confident the Junior Cert party there will run smoothly. Some 500 students are expected and tickets are already sold out. Anyone who attends under the influence of alcohol is refused admission and is held until parents are contacted.
