The Central Criminal Court jury in the trial of four men accused of the fatal shooting of a Limerick bouncer have been shown footage of a man alleged to be one of the accused on the night of the shooting.
Gary Campion (24), of Pineview Gardens, Moyross, Limerick; John Dundon (27), and Desmond Dundon (23), both from Ballinacurra Weston, Co Limerick; and businessman Anthony Kelly (50), with an address at Kilrush, Co Clare, all plead not guilty to murdering 34-year-old Brian Fitzgerald on November 29th, 2002, at Brookhaven Walk, Mill Road, Corbally, Limerick.
Garda Darragh O'Sullivan told Seán Gillane, prosecuting, that a man shown walking near an address in Pineview Gardens was the accused man Gary Campion.
He said he could identify Mr Campion on three separate pieces of CCTV footage taken from cameras overlooking the address in the Pineview Gardens estate.
This footage showed a man walking at about 8.30pm; a man getting out of a taxi at about 1am on November 29th, 2002; and two men pushing a motorbike while a third tried to start it before driving off at almost 1.20am.
Garda O'Sullivan said he could positively identify Mr Campion in the first two pieces of footage and the figure driving the motorbike in the third excerpt was wearing similar clothes.
He could not identify the figure who got out of a cab at 4.22am.
Garda O'Sullivan disagreed with Conor Devally SC, defending Mr Campion, that he had made his identification based on supposition and said that he had sufficient knowledge of Mr Campion to identify him from the footage shown.
However, Garda O'Sullivan did acknowledge that he would have been working from a limited list of possibilities given the location of the footage.
Previously the jury heard evidence from two taxi drivers who described bringing a young man dressed in dark clothes to Pineview Gardens at about 1am and some time after 4am.
The trial continues before Mr Justice Peter Charleton in legal argument today and will continue before the jury of 12 men on Tuesday at the Central Criminal Court sitting at Cloverhill.
