High Court Judge Aindrias O Caoimh has been nominated by the Government to replace Judge Fidelma Macken as Ireland's member of the Court of Justice of the European Communities.  Judge Macken will leave the position later this year.

Judge O Caoimh has served in the High Court since 1999. He is a vice-president of the Irish Society for European Law and author of The Interpretation of a Revenue Offence in Extradition Law.

Judge Macken was the first woman judge in the history of the Luxembourg-based court.  She took up the position in 1999.
