Algiers - A member of Algeria's state-ordered inquiry into the role of police in unrest in north-east Kabylie said the panel had "chosen appeasement over truth" in its preliminary report, a pro-government daily reported yesterday.
The commission's report, released on Sunday, "took a clearly political turn in order to assuage everyone", the panel member, who requested anonymity, told the newspaper L'Expression. "[Commission chairman Mohand] Issad did more of a balancing act than the real work of an investigation, trying to manage contrary forces," he said.
