Russia's Yevgeny Kafelnikov advanced to the US Open semi-finals today with a 6-4, 6-0, 6-3 victory over injured World No. 1 Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil.

The seventh seed will play Saturday for a berth in Sunday's final against the winner of a later quarter-final match between fourth-seeded Australian Lleyton Hewitt and 19-year-old American 18th seed Andy Roddick.

Kuerten, who never broke the Russian's serve, struggled with a groin injury, losing 12 games in a row in one stretch.

Kafelnikov held and broke for a 5-4 lead in the first set to start the 12-game win streak, which did not end until "Guga" held to trail only 3-1. But Kafelnikov stayed on serve the rest of the way to win in just 92 minutes, by far his quickest match of the fortnight.
