At least 25 people are dead after a car bomb attack on Kashmir's parliament.
Suspected Islamic militants drove a hijacked vehicle to the state legislature in Srinagar.
After the bomb blast, they rushed into the building for a gunfight with security forces that left staff members trapped inside.
As well as the dead, at least 50 people are injured, police say.
The rebels attacked just after most of the MPs had left a meeting. At least three rebels dressed in police uniforms got out of the 4x4 vehicle before the blast, according to police.
They entered the parliament building, firing guns and throwing hand grenades at security forces, says police superintendent Mr RK Jala.
The gun battle inside the building was still going on three hours after the explosion.
About 30 people were rescued from the building, but about 30 staff members - including secretaries and clerks - remain trapped inside.
It is not known if any of them are being held hostage.
