Keane castigates 'complacent' United stars

Manchester United captain Roy Keane has made a fresh attack on some of his team mates.

Keane was quoted as saying: "I have seen players getting complacent, thinking they've done it all and getting carried away by a bit of success.

"All you have to do is drop you standards by 5 or 10 per cent and it's obvious, especially in Europe," the Mirrorquoted him as saying.

Keane had warned his players before their defeat to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League that some of them faced the axe if the team were eliminated.

The midfielder told the paper: "You can carry maybe one player, but no more than that. You can see it in training when players just go through the motions. You can't do that, you always have to give your best. We really have to start dominating Europe as well as the Premiership."

He said: "It's up to the manager to spot it . . . it is up to the manager to know when to move people on, and he is strong enough to know when to do it.

"People need to set their standards a bit higher and not live in the past," Keane said.

Ferguson has already launched a rebuilding process by signing Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy from PSV Eindhoven this week for £19 million sterling. He has also moved to retain Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Jaap Stam on new contracts.
