Winning jockey Jose Santos has been cleared of allegations that he used an illegal electrical device in the Kentucky Derby.
The stewards at Churchill Downs found that there was nothing untoward about Santos's win on Funny Cide in the race.
Santos and his attorney met for more than two hours on Monday behind closed doors with officials and it was later revealed at a press conference that no further action was going to be taken.
The meeting was held after the Miami Heraldreported that a photograph taken at the finish of the Derby appeared to show Santos might be holding an object other than his whip in his right hand.
The Kentucky Racing Commission board of stewards came to their conclusion after reviewing dozens of photographs and a replay of the NBC tape of the race interviews with various individuals.
In addition, the stewards determined that Santos followed the rules of racing for the state of Kentucky and that the stewards are "convinced he had no illegal device or engaged in any improper activity during the race," senior steward Bernie Hettel told bloodhorse.com.
