New regulations for commercial filming and photography have been introduced in Killarney National Park, partly to protect the newly reintroduced white-tailed sea eagle.
The first batch of eagles, brought in as chicks from Norway, were released last week. Already the park has had many requests to photograph the eaglets in their natural environment.
Film crews and photographers who are going to the more dangerous or challenging areas of the park make prior arrangements with park management. They must also produce insurance and health and safety statements.
Regional manager Eamon Meskell allayed some local fears that wedding photographers would be affected by the rules asking for public indemnity in excess of €6 million. He said wildlife photography was not the same as taking wedding pictures.
