Killarney has won a cross-border environmental competition to take the title of Ireland's Best Kept Town 2007.
Other winners in the best-kept sub-categories were Tallanstown, Co Louth, Broughshane, Co Antrim and Letterkenny, Co Donegal.
The winners were named at an awards ceremony hosted in Dublin today by Minister for the Environment John Gormley.
The competition, which was first held in 1995 is jointly organised by the Department of the Environment and the Northern Ireland Amenity Council (NIAC).
Entrants were subject to a strict adjudication criteria that included cleanliness, the outward appearance of buildings, the presentation of roads and public facilities and the natural environment.
Minister Gormley said: "Congratulations to all four winners, and in particular Killarney for taking the overall title. This event is well-deserved recognition of the hard work and effort expended by ordinary people, up and down the island, contributing to their communities."
Mr Gormley was joined at the ceremony by Stephen Peover, Permanent Secretary at the Northern Ireland Department of the Environment, Doreen Muskett, MBE, President of the Northern Ireland Amenity Council (NIAC) and Donal Horgan, Managing Director of SuperValu, which sponsors the competition.
