The Bulman pub in Kinsale, Co Cork has been named the winner of the Black & White Pub of the Year for 2004.
The owner, Mr Oliver Flynn, was presented with the award at a ceremony in Dublin attended by publicans from all over the country.
The 200-year-old pub was judged to be the top pub in Ireland on the grounds of overall atmosphere, staff efficiency and friendliness, cleanliness and hygiene, welcoming exterior and interior, and a well-served range of drinks.
A record number of pubs entered the awards this year and each was judged by a panel of independent judges who visited throughout the early part of the summer.
This was followed by a second phase of celebrity judging where selected pubs were visited and considered for the overall title of Black & White Pub of the Year.
The judges this year included stars of the TV series Bachelor's Walk, Simon Delaney and Keith McErlean and former Miss Ireland Amanda Brunker.
Seventeen awards were presented in total. Morrissey's pub in Abbeyleix, Co Laois won National Heritage Pub of the year with Wright's Café Bar in Swords, Co. Dublin winning National Superpub of the Year.
