Vitali Klitschko of Ukraine will fight South Africa's Corrie Sanders for the World Boxing Council (WBC) title relinquished by Lennox Lewis.
German promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl, manager of Universum, has announced the fight would take place on April 24th at a venue yet to be decided in the United States.
Klitschko lost to Lewis in his last professional fight in June and is the number one contender for the WBC title, with Sanders number two. The WBC title is recognised as the most prestigious of the four belts.
Klitschko extended Lewis early on in their fight before it was stopped in the sixth round after a bad cut above the Ukrainian's left eye. Kohl also announced that Klitschko's younger brother Vladimir, 26th, would fight against American Lamon Brewster for the World Boxing Organisation title on April 10th in Las Vegas.
"These are two top fights within two weeks in the United States that will enjoy tremendous interest worldwide," he said.
He said the Klitschko brothers could both "become world champions within a very short period of time. That would be historic".
Sanders, 38, knocked out Vladimir Klitschko last year to win the WBO version of the heavyweight crown. Sanders gave up his WBO belt in October.
