Labour have announced their intentions of overturning the "cosy arrangement" between Fine Gael and Fianna Fail which has presided in Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown over the past 30 years, according to its director of elections, Mr Eamon Gilmore.
Speaking at the launch of Labour's local election manifesto Mr Gilmore said the 30-year domination of the two parties has created "political stagnation and lethargy and has allowed the council management to greatly increase its powers".
"The management of Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council has become too powerful. At times they behave like overlords, who rarely listen to, or heed what the local people have to say. This was most evident during the recent County Development Plan process," he said.
Labour are running ten candidates in the constituency for the June 11th poll and, according to Mr Gilmore, are the only party powerful enough to "break the mould".
"We are asking for people of this county to give Labour a mandate to change the council," said Mr Gilmore. "The manifesto that we are launching today will be delivered to every home in the county."
