The FAI are taking Irish soccer supporters for "a ride", the Labour Party claimed today.
Labour consumer affairs spokesperson Ms Kathleen Lynch
Soccer's governing body yesterday unveiled a new team kit as part of the organisation's rebranding, saying the strip was last changed two years ago.
But Labour consumer affairs spokesperson Ms Kathleen Lynch said the organisation last changed the team strip 18 months ago. "Given the limited number of international fixtures, this means there is a new Irish international home shirt for every ten games the team actually plays," Ms Lynch said.
She urged the FAI and kit manufacturer Umbro not to increase the price beyond the existing €60 price.
"Irish soccer supporters are being taken for a ride. . . . Thousands of loyal supporters who spend huge amounts following the team across the world will feel obliged to fork out for the new replica when it goes on sale.
"The soccer-supporting public - and the thousands of kids who so proudly wear the shirts of their heroes - deserve better treatment for the support and contribution they make to the performances of our team," Ms Lynch said.
