The Environmental Protection Agency has found that a Greenstar-owned landfill in east Galway breached the conditions of its waste licence.
The controversial landfill at Kilconnell, near Ballinasloe, Co Galway, has been issued with a notification of non-compliance, due to detection of both gas and waste odours.
The non-compliance notice was issued, following site inspections carried out for the Office of Environmental Enforcement in September. The company was given until September 28th to submit a schedule to the EPA outlining how the "non-compliances" would be rectified. It was warned it could be the subject of further enforcement by the agency.
Greenstar said in its reply that since the odour assessments had been carried out, "a considerable amount of work undertaken at the site which will have significant impact on atmospheric gas emissions" and "will consequently reduce the overall environmental impact".
