A long-serving senator complained bitterly about the paucity of coverage of the Seanad's proceedings by the national media. Mr Michael Lanigan (FF) said his criticism was not directed at the press reporters who attended regularly. But he found it hard to accept the approach of those in the media who treated the Seanad as if it did not exist.
Regular attenders in the press gallery had, he believed, to fight against their desk-bound colleagues in various offices to try to get adequate Seanad reportage.
If this problem could be addressed, both Houses of the Oireachtas would be enhanced, he was convinced.
