Gardaí are investigating the theft of a laptop computer from the constituency office of the Taoiseach, St Luke's, during a break-in earlier this month.
he St Luke's office in Drumcondra was also vandalised at the time of the break-in on Saturday, March 10th. The suspect is expected to appear before the courts this week to answer charges about the break-in following his arrest and the recovery of the stolen computer.
The suspect, who is in his mid 30s and from Dublin's north inner city, should have been in jail at the time of the break-in. He should have been serving three concurrent prison sentences, the longest of which is 11 months, following his conviction for minor robbery offences at a sports club and shop in the north inner city 18 months ago.
However, following his conviction and sentencing he was freed pending the outcome of an appeal which was to take place last November.
The man failed to attend court and the appeal was struck out by Dublin Circuit Court.
The matter was sent back to Dublin District Court where a warrant for the man's committal to prison was signed and issued six weeks ago.
However, this warrant was never executed and the man remained at large.
The man appeared before Dublin District Court on March 15th after his arrest for the St Luke's robbery.
A spokeswoman for the Taoiseach confirmed the incident and said the matter was for the gardaí.
