Yugoslavia's last interior minister under the rule of Mr Slobodan Milosevic has been found dead in his car.

The body of Mr Zoran Sokolovic was discovered near the town of Knjazevac, around 125 miles southeast of Belgrade, according to the current federal interior minister Mr Zoran Zivkovic.

"At this moment, I do not have confirmed information about the cause of death but there is speculation that it was suicide," Mr Zivkovic told a local radio station.

Serbia's private BK television, which broke the news of Mr Sokolovic's death, said the former minister could be seen through his car window with a gun in his hand. A specialist police team from Belgrade was on its way to inspect the scene.
