The last of the seven dolphins which took up residence over the past fortnight at Belmullet Pier, north Mayo, has finally left the shoreline pool and ventured back to the open sea.
Last Friday, three of the original septet remained after four of the dolphins were re-floated out to Blacksod Bay. A rescue attempt by a local aqua team saved the mammals from becoming stranded at a low-water mark.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, another dolphin departed, followed later at the turn of the tide on Sunday evening by the remaining two.
