Two-goal Robert Pires scored a stoppage time winner to give champions Arsenal a 2-1 victory over Fulham on Saturday, stretching the champions' lead at the top of the table to six points.

French midfielder Pires pounced in the dying seconds at Highbury after Fulham's Steed Malbranque had cancelled out the his early opener.

Arsenal have 56 points from 26 games, while Manchester United moved above Newcastle United into second place on 50 points with a 2-0 victory at Southampton. Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy and Welsh winger Ryan Giggs got the goals.

Leeds United's troubled week continued as they lost 2-0 at Everton, who are level with fourth-placed Chelsea on 45 points. Chelsea drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.
