Information on how to qualify as a solicitor in the Republic is now available on the Internet, following the launch yesterday of the Law Society's Website.

The site will have a dual purpose, according to Ms Claire O'Sullivan, the society's members' services executive. It will inform the public about the society's work and be the main source of communication with members.

Regular questions concern how to become a solicitor, how to contact or complain against a solicitor and what the view of the society is on various matters. According to Mr Ken Murphy, its general secretary, most of this information will now be on the Website.

Members of the society with the requisite PIN number will be able to trawl the library catalogue and download material. No form of legal advice will be available to the public on the site. The email address is www.lawsociety.ie
