Leeds United and Lazio shared six goals at Elland Road tonight with their relatively meaningless Champions League tie ending in a 3-3 draw.
Leeds had already qualified for the quarter-finals, along with group winners Real Madrid, while Italian champions Lazio's hopes of going through to the last eight had long since disappeared after three second phase defeats.
David O'Leary and rival boss Dino Zoff fielded virtual reserve teams, both sides without seven first-choice players. However, Leeds' Lee Bowyer did play despite spending the last three days at Hull Crown Court where he is on trial with Jonathan Woodgate, a United substitute here.
Experienced striker Fabrizio Ravanelli opened the scoring for Lazio heading home Czech international Pavel Nedved's 21st minute cross.
But six minutes later Leeds were level, with Bowyer becoming one of this season's Champions League joint top-scorers, his sixth goal a looping right-foot shot.
Within a minute a Sinisa Mihajlovic penalty, after Dominic Matteo's foul on Ravanelli, made it 2-1 to Lazio. Then two minutes from half-time Leeds equalised again when Jason Wilcox volleyed home for his first goal in over 10 months.
In the second half Leeds took the lead thanks to Australian international Mark Viduka's 62nd minute header from an Ian Harte free-kick. It was the Australia striker's 18th goal of the season and his fourth in the last five games.
But in the final minute Mihajlovic's free-kick levelled the scores
